For Virtual Resource / Navigation Hours
Volunteers help with:
Holding space and offering nonjudgmental conversation
Practicing trauma-informed, peer-based support
Helping reduce isolation through human connection
Sharing information about city services and community resources
Helping neighbors identify next steps (shelter access, documents, health services, food resources)
Referring people to private or government programs when appropriate
Good for: peer supporters, grief workers, facilitators, people with lived experience, social work students, case managers, peer advocates, systems nerds; for volunteers who are comfortable learning systems or already have lived/professional experience.
Supply & Prep Support - Drop to Mutal Aid Efforts in Long Beach
Volunteers help with:
Assembling hygiene/care/harm reducation kits
Sorting donated items
Picking up or transporting supplies
Prepping food or beverages (when applicable)
Good for: introverts, folks with limited mobility, weekday helpers
Outreach Day Support - Currently on hold; supporting other Mutal Aid efforts in Long Beach
Volunteers help with:
Setting up and breaking down outreach stations
Distributing food, water, hygiene kits, and supplies
Offering peer presence and conversation (no fixing, just listening)
Helping maintain a calm, respectful, and welcoming environment
Good for: first-time volunteers, people curious about mutual aid
Time Commitment
Most shifts are 1–3 hours
Volunteers can participate occasionally or regularly
No long-term commitment required
What Volunteers Don’t Need
No prior outreach experience required
No social work or clinical background needed
No expectation to “fix” or rescue anyone
Training, guidance, and support are provided.
